Philips M1X
Role: Supporting Designer
Project Lead: Tim Homewood
Overview
The Philips M1X was a side project that I supported, working alongside a team led by Tim Homewood. The M1X is a portable boombox designed to provide music enthusiasts with an intuitive way to mix music stored on their smartphone. This device combines portability and functionality, allowing users to take control of their music and easily enjoy it on the go.
Key Features
-
User-Controlled Mixing:
The M1X was designed with an interactive control panel that lets users mix and adjust their music directly from the device, enhancing the experience for music lovers and aspiring DJs. -
Travel Mode & Repositionable Control Panel:
The control panel of the M1X is unique in that it lifts up and can be flipped upside down, allowing it to be repositioned on the speaker for travel mode. This makes the device compact and easy to carry, providing both functionality and convenience for on-the-go users. -
Stackable Design:
Multiple M1X units can be stacked on top of each other, creating a customizable and expanded sound experience. This feature adds versatility to the device, allowing users to create a more powerful setup when desired.
Collaboration and Design Process
Though I was not the project lead, I played a key role in supporting the design process and collaborating with the rest of the team. Working with Tim Homewood and the design team, we focused on creating a product that was not only portable and functional but also visually appealing and easy to use for music enthusiasts.
Design Impact
The Philips M1X stands out for its innovative design, combining portability, user-friendly mixing functionality, and stackability, making it a versatile and exciting product for music lovers on the go.
